Down
at Lake Bled by 6am all ready to go for sunrise photography! We had a fairly still lake with
barely any wind, so the reflections weren’t too bad! Whispy
clouds high up in the sky showed us that there was some really good
potential for some colour.
Here's Steve all snuggly warm in his big down jacket and beanie!
As
the minutes ticked by and the sun got a little higher over the
horizon BOOM the colour hit! The sky went a bright pink over the
lake – it was just beautiful! We even got a tiny bit of mist coming up off the water too! It was just lovely!
How
blessed are we that we’ve had a great sunset and now an amazing
sunrise! Thank you Lake Bled – we appreciate all you’ve given
us!
The
White Swans swam over to say hello – only to make ripples in the
water, but it was ok, we didn’t care.
Oh
and a little bird flew on a branch next to me. As small as a sparrow
with the brightest orange belly! It sat there for a few seconds and
sung to me and then flew off! How beautiful!
On
our walk back to the car Steve suggested that we do the hill climb
now. This is the walk up to the first mountain to look back down on
Lake Bled and the Island. There is another hill to climb after that
but from that view point you are too high and looking down too
“ontop” of the island, so we wont be doing that.
So
onwards we trecked, up a very rocky path (we think it was a river coarse). As the tree’s had
dropped all of their leaves onto the ground, it made walking
difficult for me as I couldn’t see where I was putting my feet.
With 2 broken ankles in the past and the fact I can roll an ankle on
a blade of grass, I took things very slowly. The going was so slow
that at least I wasn’t as out of breathe as when we are normally hiking up
mountains!
A
local passed us as great speed – you should have seen him go! It
was like he was jet-powered …. such grace and speed! I couldn’t
help but be a little bit jealous as to how fit his was!
We finally made it to the top! WOW!!
The
view from the top was amazing! It was great to see the lake from up
here!
We
met the local who passed us and had a lovely conversation! He showed
us where he lived. He and his wife just had a baby 16 days ago &
they have another youngster at 1yr. His wife lets him have 1 hour to
himself every morning – so he chooses to climb the mountain with
that time! No wonder he’s so fast – he only gets an hour and he
does it every day!
He
never expected to meet 2 Aussies here and especially 2 Aussies up a
mountain in November!!!! We made his day apparently! Then he said
good-bye and he was good down the mountain in a flash! I didn’t
even have time to take his photo.
Then
we met Karmen, another local lady who was up for a walk. She was
just lovely and gave us some lovely recommendations on things to go
and see. The main one being Bohinj - a large lake not too far from
here. Its not as packed as Lake Bled and its where the locals go in
summer. So we put that on our list to
perhaps go and see if we had time. We were also recommended to go to
Vintgar Gorge. I had done some research on this before we left
Australia and it looked amazing!
Steve
and I took our photos and then we made our decent down the hill –
even slower than going up!
When
we got back to the apartment, all the row boats were out and about and
the view out our bedroom window looked great! They looked so pretty
against the remaining autumn foliage (just one tree opposite us!)
After
dropping our gear at the apartment, we drove into the main part of
the Lake, and we went and had Breakfast at a big cafe with outdoor
seating right on the lake – its where the “beautiful people” go
to be seen. Not sure how we were let in…. Bad hair, hiking
clothes! Ha ha Oh well – its not like we’ll see these people
ever again.
We
both had hot chocolates (just like at home – not the
nice thick Italian style), and 2 Cream Cakes. Steve said that
yesterday’s were much better. This mornings is just for the
tourists it seems. But it was nice to sit out on the lake in the
sun, but OMG it was COLD, only 3 degree’s and there was a very slight
breeze – that ripped through like a knife.
They
had a mini festival on at the lake today - looked like a Wine
Festival..... but as we don't drink wine there was nothing for us there,
so the minute we finished looking around, we quickly headed back to the
car where we could put the heater
on.
Never
before did I want gloves and a scarf more! I should have had my huge
down jacket on – that would have kept me toasty warm!
As
we were in the car we decided to go find this Lake Bohinj. It was
only 20mins up the road. We went through some lovely countryside and
a couple of local towns.
The
lake was much bigger than Bled. No island, but it is flanked on one
side by a huge rock mountain. At the top end is a stone bridge and
a church, and at the other end up a hill is a waterfall. We
considered going to see the fall, but there were bus loads of
tourists rocking up, and we couldn’t be bothered fighting amongst
the hoards just to see some falling water! (Plus it was up another
huge hill) lol Defeatist I know, but it was how we were feeling!
On
the way back down we stopped to look at the surrounds. It seemed
surreal. The whitest of rocks everywhere you looked amongst the
tree’s, all covered in the greenest moss. The moss was amazing - thick and so lush!
A few weeks earlier when
the leaves that had fallen were still their autumn colours it would
have looked very special. Actually, if the leaves were still on the
tree’s the whole place would have been magical. Unfortunately
today, the whole lake looked bleak and drab – like a bush fire had
been through, so we didn't stop the take photos of the rock reflected in the lake.
We
drove back to Bled and decided to stay in the apartment for an hour
or so to take a nanna-nap. We woke at 3pm to find that the whole
sky had clouded over – thick as thick could be! No mountains to be
seen at all! How lucky were we to have arrived yesterday to get
the sunset last night and sunrise today!
A
quick check of the weather has shown that we “might” get some
light snow overnight! OMG – I hope so! OMG – if snow falls
here, it would be the perfect dream come true! The photos of Lake
Bled with snow are out of this world! I wont get my hopes up too
much… much! (is it snowing yet?) lol It should start snowing around
midnight and continue on after 6am tomorrow morning, so when we are up
for sunrise we might just be in for a treat - OMG I HOPE SO!! If it
snows I'll be out there all day taking photos!!! Actually, if it is
snowing, I'll have Steven up at 5am to go out to take photos !! ha ha

So
with very grey drab skies, and no sunset to be had, we stayed indoors where it
is warm and dry. Getting ready for our dinner downstairs again
tonight at 7pm. 7pm is too late now! I want dinner NOW!! ha ha ha
Finally
7pm came around and we went for dinner. Of course Steve & I had the slow
cooked Veal Cheek – OMG….to die for.
I had the Chef’s soup
again and then dessert came. It was called a “Chocolate Bomb” -
Mika bought out the plate full of mousse and fruits with this big
round chocolate ball. We didn't take any photos as we filmed the event! It was amazing!
Mika
placed it in the centre of the table and then he poured hot
Strawberry Jus over the Chocolate ball and the chocolate melted to
reveal a chocolate ice-cream ball in the centre! Talk about the
theatre of Dessert! It was amazing!
Steve tried the local beer - he really enjoyed it! I love the way it came it a cute paper bag!
Best
meal ever!
It
was the perfect meal to finish an awesome day in Slovenia!
Good
Night Slovenia!
