Day 8 – Sunday 30th October, 2016 - Domenica

Day Light Savings finished over night, so now we are up an hour earlier – boohoo. So at 5.30am we were up and in the car making the hiddeous 10min drive to San Giovanni Ranui Church….this is THE church I wanted to photograph! It is so gorgeous – a ‘ginger bread house’ style church in a lush green paddock with the Odle mountains behind.

Not the most ideal sunrise image as the valley stays too dark and with no clouds in the sky, the sky is too bright. We stayed and shot it anyway! I was so happy! The morning is fine and clear and a slight wind which was very cold.

We will come back here later today – not at sunset, but later in the afternoon when there is sunlight on the pretty autumn foliage and the mountains are softer with light.

We headed back into town, but being a Sunday and only 7.30am, everything was shut! Tim and Scott were having a melt-down about the lack of availability of food – was hilarious! Ha ha – we ended up going back to where we had dinner to find they were just open. So we had hot chocolates and Croissants….OMG – the pastries are to DIE FOR!! Heaven…… HEAVEN!! Not sure the lycra I am wearing will stretch far enough – considering I am only 1 week into the trip and things are already tight….and I still have another 3 weeks to go! Ha ha ha Ahhhhh who cares!

Actually, I’ve hardly seen an overweight Italian. Not in Rome – too much walking. And not here in Villnoss – too many hills! McDonalds is not on every street. Its a lovely way of life!

We came back to the apartment to shower and rest for the morning – process images and take drugs.

I can’t believe that I am sitting here in the dining room, looking out at the carport, which is built into a small hill….which cows are grazing on – so cows wearing cow bells – just there outside my window! WOW – so cool.

I’ve decided I am going to live here. Sure it will be cold in winter, but eh – I have my big down jacket. As long as the hot chocolate and pastries are available, I’ll be fine!!!

Poor Steve is getting sicker. He was up most of the night coughing. Same with Luca. I am finishing my antibiotics tomorrow and my nose is still bad. So I am still on Codral as well. I can see I will relapse because I am now surrounded by Luca and Steve and I reckon Tim and Scott will be sick within the next couple of days too. Hopefully it wont hinder the trip too much.

We are heading out to scout some locations later this afternoon, before coming back to shoot the town church, then we’ll do the sunset location where we find later on. Having a great time! Love it here!

Well, our scouting effort didn’t last all that long! We drove up a long winding road (was spectacular) to this mountain high on top of the world. We decided that would be the sunrise photo. It was a decent walk from the carpark in, but we thought at 5am in the morning, we could sneak the car up there and drive!

We drove back down the mountain to the sunset location. The sun was low in the sky, so we wasted no time in starting the hike. Crikey…. Uphill all the way. I struggled – really struggled! I know I hadn’t been to the gym in 12 weeks, but surely I was more fit than this? Obviously not. But the air was freezing cold – 3 degrees and heading south. I think me going from warm air to very cold was enough to stuff up my asthma. So I got half way and that was it. Took a few photos and Steve and I and Tim headed down the hill. Tim was wearing in new hiking shoes and the image he wanted wasn’t obvious from his hike further uphill.

We found a nice location close to the carpark and stayed there till sunset.

We went and got a coffee (& a Gelati – Raspberry & Vanilla – was very nice!), and waited for Luca and Scott to come back off the mountain. We weren’t sure if Luca was in fact with Scott as they didn’t go up together – Luca waited for Steve and I to catch up. But in the end it was all ok. Tim managed to scare the crap out of Scott in the dark – we loved Scotts big girly SHRIEK of fright – was hilarious!

We got some early evening photos with some stars and we found the boys and down the hill we went.

We went back to the same restaurant for dinner….. Weiner Schnitzel for Steve and I had Macaronni with Bacon YUM….and of course desert!

Poor Luca was tired – he is getting more and more sick and he did the huge hike – and he is fast up the mountain (but he is only 31yrs old, so he is young!)….. by 9pm Luca was almost asleep at the table, so we went back to the apartment for some sleep….tomorrow is a very early start.
