Day 23 - 14th November 2016

I was up and down all night from midnight…..  1am “has it snowed yet?”…..  2am “has it snowed yet?”..... 3am "has it snowed yet?"  .... 4am  "has it snowed yet?"

No it had not snowed!  :(   Devastated!

Around 5.15am the traffic started. Being a Monday the locals were on their way to work and boy do they leave in droves and they leave super early!

At 6am I could just make out what the skies were doing, and it was still heavily clouded skies. So we decided that we would stay in where it is warm. No use being out there at 6am when it is -3 and no chance of any colour.

This apartment is perfectly located above our favourite restaurant, and with views to the island on the lake – its perfectly located! BUT, the walls are paper thin, so you know when the neighbours are up and doing things, and you can hear every truck & car go past. There are no block out curtains, so headlights light up the room – and we are on the 2nd floor. The room is very small. I would recommend staying here, but not for any more than a day or two. With all of our luggage, there isn’t any room in here.  It might be suited better to local Slovenian's here for a quick weekend away.

We went for breakfast as the Art Cafe where we had Panini’s and the most delicious hot chocolates and Steve had his Cream Cake! :) He was a very happy boy!

From there we drove up to Vintgar Gorge at midday. Similar to Johnston’s Canyon in Canada. There is a boardwalk that runs around the rock walls that follow the river through small falls and cascades. Its really beautiful.

If someone could get rid of all of this debris I'd be really grateful!  :)

Look at Steve in action!

I think he is taking a photo of me taking a photo of the waterfall!  ha ha ha

Here's Steve taking photos of me!

We spent so much time there taking many photo’s, by the time we made it down to the waterfall it was 3.30pm. I had noticed the colour in the clouds start to happen – OMG – Sunset!!

We ran out of there….. honestly, we did it in record time! - 20mins! Hot and sweaty and huffing & puffing, we jumped in the car and down back into Bled to the Island.

We barely made it in time! We got the remnants of colour in the sky. I think we were lucky to get any colour at all. The snow covered mountains were still covered in cloud and it was heavy, but a little bit of colour had peaked through.

Being the 14th November, tonight there is a SuperMoon. There were a few photographers on the boardwalk all hoping for the moon to appear. But alas, there was no moon to be seen – the thick grey cloud only got thicker and within minutes there was no chance to see the moon.

Such a shame as it would have been in a perfect location next to the Island.

We dumped our gear back in the room and we headed off for an early dinner. Tonight we tried different things!

I had a local Mushroom soup made from local Slovenian Funghi! Delicious!

Then I had a Fillet Minion. WOW – just perfect.

Steve had a “grill plate”. He has a Spicy Sausage, Smoked Pork, Chicken wrapped in Proscuitto with Cheese in the middle, and a fillet of beef.

WOW – there was no room for dessert, even if we wanted to!

I thanked the chef – Branco. He was so lovely!

And of course we said our good-byes to Mika and thanked him for being such an awesome waiter. I highly recommend SOVA Restaurant in Bled.

Back to our room and we have to pack our bags for tomorrow morning we drive to Venice! We have to drop off the car at the airport by 11.30am and then get all our gear on a water bus and over to the accommodation.

We only have 1 full day in Venice. We arrive tomorrow afternoon, so there wont be much time to see anything. We might try and get to Burano a small island full of colourful homes. But chances are we’ll just stay in main Venice and walk around. Then it is back home to reality. Not ready to leave yet – so many places to see and visit….so many more Hot Chocolates and Gelati’s to be consumed (even if my lycra won’t stretch anymore!)

Slovenia has been amazing. Come visit this wonderful small country if ever you get the chance. The locals are just lovely and the food divine, and the countryside is stunning! I wasn’t too sure of what to expect, other than the Island of Lake Bled in the photos we’d seen, but WOW it’s so very pretty! Come visit!

Good night Slovenia – Thank you for everything – we’ll be back soon!
